                                              Enjoying the wilderness of the misty mountains!

This trip takes us deep into the wonders of what is knows as “The Karst Paradise “of Romania. You will be introduced to romantic sceneries hiding mysterious caverns, beautiful karst springs and numerous sinkholes. This area known to Romanians as Padis is considered to be one of the most spectacular and beautiful locations of its kind.

Our journey will take us to seasonal sheepfolds (during transhumance season )where we will be joyning shepherds at one of their traditional dinners.
For the ones eager to embrace nature even more, the options of tent camping will also be available. Camp fire stories and some local delicacies alongside home made spirits (palinca) are a must!

Galbenei gorge – the famous gorge of the Apuseni Mountains

Somesului Cald gorges – closer to wilderness ( also visisting Radesei fortress )
The Rocks of Boghii amphitheater (Boghii cave)
The Bears’ Cave  – on the footsteps of the cavern bear
Scarisoara Glacier – the largest underground glacier in Romania
Ruginoasa Hole – a mouth of Hell in a corner of Heaven

Day I
Pick up from Budapest Airport from where you will be taken to Boga village in the Apuseni Mountains ( by car ). Once arrived, check in and dinner will be provided. During dinner time, more aspects of the following days will be discussed and questions will be answered.

Day II
We will be visiting the karst complex named Cetatile Ponorului (4 hours trip ), the grandest karst phenomenon of Romania, followed by a trip to the Focul Viu glacier ( the third of its kind as size goes in Romania ). We end by breathing in some panoramic views at the Piatra Galbena ( The Yellow Stone )(3 hours trip ).

Day III

The Galbenei Gorge  cyrcuit

Day IV
We will be visiting Sighesului Valley, a wild and full of caverns and caves paradise followed by a visit to Groapa Ruginoasa ( the rusty pit ). Also, according to the dynamic of the group, we can do The Scarisoara Glacier or The Bears’ Cave .

Day V
We will be visisting The Warm Somes Gorges ( 6 hours trip )and get closer to the wilderness. Radesei fortress is nearby and also with a bit of hiking, amazing panoramic views can be reached.

Day VI
We will be visiting Molhasurile de la Izbuce , The Pit bogs of Apuseni and The Rocks of Boghii amphitheater

 

Day VII
After breakfast you will be transferred by car to the airport

Explore the beauties of underground world!

This trip takes us discovering the hidden wonders of the Apuseni Mountains. Wide karst plateaus and wild gorges lead the way towards what is known to the “the underworld ” of the Apuseni chain. Little over 340 caves and sinkholes have been discover to the present day, thus making the area very mysterious and adventurous , also extremely enticing to enthusiastic speleologist from all over the world. The wonders of the day will be toned down in very old and traditional houses made of wood and clay.

Day I

Pick up from Budapest Airport from where you will be taken to the Rosia village ( by car )
The accommodation is a complex of beautiful traditional reconditioned cottages. The area is situated on top of a hill, thus offering marveillous panoramic views, worthy of fairytale books.
Dinner will be served and then we will gather to the fire, we will talk what we will visit in the next few days and drink a glass of palinca in honor of nature.

Day II
We will be visiting The Runcuri Plateau and the Vadul Crisului Cave ( The Hungarian’s Cave optional ). The landscape consists of a series of isolated hills,

Day III

We will be visiting The Cutilor Gorges and the famous Bears’ Cave. The name of ” cutilor ” come from the stones used to sharpen knives that can be found all over this valley. Although not long in size, these gorges are pretty amazing due to the abrupt walls, walls that reach 60 to 100 metres in height. They are also hiding the Singing Cave, The Cow’s Cave and the Bats’ Cave. The last on the list for this day is the Bears’ Cave. This cave is around 1500 metres in lenght and it has 2 levels due to two different levels of erosion. The Superior Galery and The Inferior Galery. Only one of them is open for the public. What is most interesting about it is that traces and bone remainings of Ursus Spealeus have been found here. truly spectacular place.

Day IV

We will be visiting Meziad Cave, the underground gothic cathedral of Apuseni. The uniqueness of the cave is given by its entrance portal that reaches heights of around 16 meters and lengths of over 10 meters, as well as the interior, alongside the large colonies of protected bats at national and international level and endemic microscopic organisms (living only in the Meziad Cave) particularly beautiful (stalactites, stalagmites, columns, curtains). In the cave were found traces of the Paleolithic and Neolithic, being a cave inhabited by Homo sapiens and animals such as Ursus spelaeus.

We’re going to have lunch at a retreat in the middle of the woods. We’ll eat trout cooked on the barbecue with the traditional cheesecake with cheese and mujdei.
Then we will head to the Farcu Cave (the Cave of Crystals). It is the only calcareous crystal cave in Europe and the second one in the world that can be visited by tourists. The cave will delight our eyes with the wonderful crystalline, translucent and unique crystals that adorn the walls, culminating in the “Crystal Reserve”.

Day V
